PROJECT #0001- Needs Assessment And Community Mapping

Needs Assessment Report: Teenage Pregnancy, Education, and Socioeconomic Status

Date Conducted: February 1, 2025

On February 1, 2025, a needs assessment was conducted to better understand the challenges surrounding teenage pregnancy and its relationship with educational attainment and socioeconomic status among young women aged 16 to 28.

Key Objectives

The assessment aimed to:

  • Identify the main factors contributing to teenage pregnancy.
  • Examine the relationship between education levels and early pregnancy.
  • Understand the socioeconomic conditions influencing young women’s life choices.
  • Explore participants’ interest in skills training and continued education.

Key Findings

The findings revealed a strong link between lower levels of education and higher rates of teenage pregnancy. Many participants reported that limited access to education, financial hardship, and lack of mentorship contributed to early pregnancy.

Socioeconomic vulnerability was identified as a major underlying factor, often restricting opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Encouragingly, a significant number of participants expressed a strong interest in continuing their education or acquiring practical skills that could lead to sustainable livelihoods. Preferred areas included vocational training, entrepreneurship, and digital skills development.

Next Steps

Based on these insights, the initiative will:

  • Design targeted skills training and educational support programs.
  • Develop a screening and selection process to identify participants most in need.
  • Roll out support interventions in batches to ensure effective delivery and personalized engagement.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and monitoring to support long-term impact.

This phased approach will enable the program to deliver tailored support while maximizing reach and effectiveness among vulnerable young women.

Project #0002

Follow-Up Update: Deepening Impact Through Targeted Engagement and Sustainable Support

Follow-Up Update: Deepening Impact Through Targeted Engagement and Sustainable Support

Building on the insights from our February 1, 2025 needs assessment, we have taken a critical next step in transforming research into meaningful, life-changing action. Through targeted follow-up engagements, we met with a carefully selected group of young women to better understand their unique realities, aspirations, and pathways toward economic independence.

Listening, Understanding, and Co-Creating Solutions

In these sessions, participants openly shared their personal journeys, challenges, and ambitions. Many expressed a strong desire to break cycles of vulnerability through vocational training, entrepreneurship, and continued education. These conversations allowed us to move beyond generalized findings and co-create tailored support pathways that reflect each participant’s specific goals.

Recognizing the importance of a strong support system, we conducted these engagements in the presence of parents and guardians. This inclusive approach fostered trust, reinforced shared commitment, and ensured that each young woman was supported both within the program and at home.

Strengthening Accountability for Long-Term Impact

To ensure sustainability and maximize the long-term value of donor investment, we introduced a structured sponsorship agreement signed by participants and their families. Through this model, the foundation commits to sponsoring beneficiaries in accredited vocational or trade programs aligned with their interests.

Importantly, the agreement includes a sustainability clause requiring participants to refund the cost of their training if they do not complete the program without valid cause. This approach promotes accountability, ownership, and responsible stewardship of resources, allowing funds to be recycled and extended to support additional beneficiaries in the future.

A Scalable Model for Lasting Change

This blended approach, combining personalized support, family engagement, and a sustainability mechanism, positions the program as both impactful and scalable. As participants are enrolled into training programs, we will continue to provide mentorship, monitoring, and guidance to ensure successful completion and transition into economic opportunities.

For our donor partners, this represents more than sponsorship; it is an investment in a sustainable model that empowers young women, strengthens communities, and multiplies impact over time.

Together, we are not only changing individual lives but also building a pathway for generational transformation.

Project #0003- Celebration Of World Menstrual Hygiene Day

World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025

On May 28, 2025, Pearlleads Foundation, in partnership with the Hohoe Municipal Health Directorate and the Alavanyo Wudidi Health Centre, commemorated World Menstrual Hygiene Day at Alavanyo Kpeme under the global theme “Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld.”

The outreach brought together over 70 women and adolescent girls, alongside community leaders and health professionals, to promote awareness and education on menstrual health and hygiene. Through interactive health talks, practical demonstrations, and open discussions, participants gained essential knowledge on menstrual hygiene management and reproductive health, helping to break stigma and build confidence, especially among young girls.

As part of the intervention, approximately 250 packs of sanitary pads were distributed to support participants in managing their menstrual health with dignity. The program also engaged parents, guardians, and community leaders to encourage sustained support and laid the groundwork for establishing an adolescent girls’ club in the community.

The initiative was warmly received, with participants expressing appreciation for both the education and resources provided. While challenges such as limited supplies and logistical constraints were noted, the impact underscores the urgent need for continued investment in menstrual health programs.

Pearlleads Foundation remains committed to expanding access to menstrual health education and essential resources, working toward a future where every girl and woman can manage her period safely, confidently, and without stigma.

Project #0004- Formation Of An Adolescent Club

Formation and launch of the Alavanyo Kpeme Adolescent Next Gen Club

Following our community engagement during the World Menstrual Hygiene Day outreach in May 2025, Pearlleads Foundation took a strategic step toward sustained impact by initiating the formation of an Adolescent Club in Alavanyo Kpeme in August 2025. We are proud to share that this effort culminated in the official launch of the club on April 6, 2026.

About the Adolescent Club

The Adolescent Club was established as a safe and empowering platform for young people, especially girls, to access accurate information, build life skills, and receive ongoing support as they navigate adolescence. The initiative was developed through strong collaboration with key stakeholders, ensuring community ownership and long-term sustainability. A total of 40 adolescents were registered and currently being tutored.

Stakeholder Involvement and Commitment

The success of the Adolescent Club is rooted in the active involvement and commitment of key stakeholders, including local health authorities, community leaders, parents, and educators. Health professionals have committed to providing regular education on adolescent and reproductive health, while community leaders and opinion leaders have pledged their support in promoting participation and addressing harmful cultural norms.

Parents and guardians have also embraced the initiative, recognizing its value in guiding and protecting their children. Their involvement has strengthened accountability and created a supportive home environment for club members. Together, these stakeholders have demonstrated a shared commitment to nurturing the well-being and development of adolescents in the community.

Objectives of the Club

  • To provide continuous education on menstrual health, reproductive health, and personal hygiene.
  • To create a safe space for adolescents to share experiences, ask questions, and receive guidance.
  • To reduce stigma and harmful cultural taboos surrounding menstruation and adolescent health.
  •
  • To equip members with life skills, including confidence building, decision-making, and leadership.
  • To promote positive behavioral change and reduce risks associated with teenage pregnancy.
  • To strengthen community support systems through active stakeholder engagement.

Key Benefits

  • Improved Health Knowledge: Members gain access to accurate, age-appropriate health information.
  • Increased Confidence: Safe discussions help adolescents build self-esteem and express themselves freely.
  • Better Hygiene Practices: Ongoing education supports healthier menstrual and personal hygiene habits.
  • Peer Support Network: The club fosters friendship, mentorship, and shared learning among members.
  • Reduced Vulnerability: Access to guidance and skills helps lower the risk of early pregnancy and school dropout.
  • Leadership Development: Members are encouraged to take on roles that build responsibility and community engagement.

Looking Ahead

The launch of the Adolescent Club marks a significant milestone in our commitment to long-term, community-based support for young people. With strong stakeholder backing and continuous engagement, the club will deliver regular mentorship, health education, and life skills training to empower adolescents to make informed decisions and pursue brighter futures.

Pearlleads Foundation remains dedicated to strengthening and expanding this initiative to reach more underserved communities.
